2023

In September, we joined the global March to End Fossil Fuels at Queen’s Park. It was great to see such a large turnout! It’s important that we all turn out to these protests and contact our elected representatives to stress how important it is for Canada and other countries to phase out fossil fuels, which are the main cause of climate change. We need to adopt renewables so that we may electrify buildings, transportation, and industry with clean electricity.

We met with Charles Sousa, MP for Mississauga Lakeshore to understand how we can best influence the Clean Electricity Regulation (CER). It will be released soon for public comment. We need to ensure that we phase out natural gas generation plants and build no more gas plants to keep our electricity grid as low carbon as possible. We need a low carbon grid as we transition to a low carbon economy.

2022

Protesting Against Proposed Greenbelt Development

We do not need more highways through the Greenbelt. Highways encourage urban sprawl and more commuting, both leading to more GHG emissions. In addition, we need to preserve our local farmland for growing food. There is plenty of underutilized land in Mississauga for new homes.

One of the most important things to do for climate action is to vote for climate advocates! We canvassed to increase voter turnout for both the Ontario and the municipal elections. We supported Rahul Mehta, a climate advocate, for Councillor in Mississauga Ward 8.

We attended the “Emergency in Ontario” rally for climate, communities and nature at Queen’s Park in May 2022. We need to encourage everyone to vote for candidates that will take bold climate action.

We protested the investment in fossil fuel infrastructure outside of RBC’s offices.

2021

We participated in the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice protest at Queen’s Park on November 6, 2021. It was great to be out protesting in person again!

We participated in several Fridays for Future Strikes - so important to show politicians and others that we care about the climate!
